The Varsity Guild Great Gatsby Masquerade Ball is here to give you the best night out of your year! The Oxford Guild, Cambridge Guild, London Guild and our Collegium Global Network invite you to spend a magical evening in lavish luxury in the grandeur of the world famous, historic and illustrious V&A Victoria&Albert Museum of Childhood in London, one of the world’s most celebrated museums, a gorgeous GRADE II listed building dating back to the 1800s. Stay Forever Young, release your inner child and celebrate the end of your term in style on Friday 17th November at the best ball of the year. Put on your mask, prepare for a night of mystery and decadence and re-live the Roaring Twenties in a 1920’s setting the Great Gatsby would be proud of! WHAT TO EXPECT? Our magnificent venue is the perfect grand setting for the night’s excesses and the ball of the year. The renowned V&A Victoria&Albert Museum of Childhood is one of the world’s premier museums and properties dating back to 1872 and a timeless, beautiful and characterful location that will ensure a truly memorable night for all. Picture the scene: elegant crowds sweep in across the red carpet, glass in hand at the champagne reception, impeccably dressed in masquerade with black tie and gorgeous dresses in the Great Gatsby setting. Pass the lush lawns and enter the grand ballroom with its elegant and historic fish scale pattern Marble Floor, you will be surrounded by the galleries and collections throughout the evening including the special Michael Morpurgo exhibition, where the intimate acoustics make for an electric atmosphere with place settings prepared carefully for our wonderful entertainers, dancing and the delicious food and drinks. Take in the incredible history with classical and jazz music playing in the background and dance the night away to brilliant DJs and live bands. With a wide array of activities to enjoy, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Expect an amazing night of entertainment! We will also be specially raising money from and at the ball for children’s causes with funds going to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) and YoungMinds (the UK’s leading charity championing the mental health and wellbeing of young people). The museum has its origins in the Great Exhibition of 1851 and since opening in 1872 this magnificent Grade II listed building with the elegant and historic Marble Floor and lush lawns has become one of the best-loved features of London. It houses the UK’s national collection of childhood-related objects from 1600 to present day, one of the finest in the world, featuring thousands of toys – including dolls, dolls’ houses, puppets and teddy bears – games, childcare, clothing, furniture and art and photography. The oldest doll in the museum dates back to around 1300 BC.

Stepping into the impressive 1872 GRADE II listed building surrounding by lush lawns, you are captivated by the stunning splendour of the elegant famous fish scale pattern marble floor, F W Moody designed murals on the north and south exterior walls and remarkable spaces with original 19th century features. The red carpet flows up from the entrance and the 19th century architecture creates an impressive visual impact sp upon entering you will be surrounded by the galleries and collections, providing a stunning backdrop for photos.

The striking exterior of the hall sets the standard for the rest of the building, bestowing a real sense of heritage to proceedings. The majestic museum’s intimate acoustics make for an electric atmosphere, and perfect gorgeous setting for you to dance away all night. As a result of the grandeur of the glamorous venue, previously the V&A Victoria&Albert Museum of Childhood has been used as a location for various high profile events, parties and fashion shows as well as featuring in many televised broadcasts with celebrities.
