On Thursday 26th June 2014, the Guild won three huge national awards – we won the gold prize for Best Professional Development Programme for our members and runner up prizes for Best Series of Events and Best Alumni Engagement against over 2,000 other societies across the country of all types. The finals were attended by over 300 graduate recruiters and students (including our sponsor contacts) and follows on from other positive articles the national and Oxford student media and other the national awards each year over the last 3 years. This is an enormous achievement and all testament to the high level of service we offer and an unprecedented stellar year and we are very proud to be recognised for our work. The Guild’s award was featured in article in the Cherwell newspaper on 30th June 2014.
President Abbas Kazmi had the following to say on the day as part of our press release:
“We are truly honoured to be recognised in this fashion and are delighted to receive the awards and the several thousand pounds of prize money. It is humbling to receive our 7th national award out of 7 in the last 2 years and, and follows on from numerous positive features in the national press and prizes for ‘Best University Society’, ‘Best Membership Engagement’ and ‘Best Series of Events which confirm our position as one of the country’s most successful and leading societies. It is heartening to see all the hours of hard work we have put in throughout the year pay off and thanks must go to the committee for their work in what has been a stellar year that has seen the Guild become Oxford’s largest society. We have a committee culture that encompasses drive, excellence and innovation and we offer a level of service above and beyond that of other societies with the sheer amount of work, hours and effort we put into our roles.
Our successes are the direct result of the committee’s innovation, initiative and fact that they care the most and work the hardest; ensuring the best possible service for our members and sponsors. The awards give us a great deal of encouragement in striving to continue to make a difference for students in the coming years and ultimately, such acknowledgement makes all the hard work worth it. It has been a truly amazing year and we look forward to continuing our success and work! We look set for another exciting year ahead so watch this space…”
