This is a truly unique and unprecedented opportunity to hear from and ask questions of such a high profile and prestigious speaker with such a fascinating story from the tennis court to the boardroom who is specially visiting Oxford this Sunday to speak to you. DO NOT MISS OUT ON WHAT PROMISES TO BE A HIGHLY INTERESTING, INSIGHTFUL AND EXCITING TALK AND OCCASION where you can hear from and ask questions of the man the Washington Post called ‘Tennis’ Mystery Man’ who made unparalleled successful transition from professional sports to high-stakes business!

Ion Țiriac started out his career as an Olympic Level ice hockey player for then Communist Romania, before making the switch to professional tennis. He became a Top 10 ranked player and won the French Open doubles tournament in 1970 with former world no.1 Ilie Nastase, before becoming a coach for stars like Nastase, Goran Ivanisevic, Marat Safin, Dinara Safina and Guilermo Vilas; as an agent, he orchestrated Boris Becker’s rise to fame in the 1980s, joining the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2013. After ending his career as a professional tennis player, Mr. Țiriac continued his activity within the sports environment as a coach, promoter, manager, consultant and organiser of tennis tournaments. He is currently the owner of several major tennis tournaments, including the Madrid Mutua Open, one of the biggest sporting events every year. His outspoken opposition to equal women’s pay in tennis has created significant controversy in the past year. After 1989, upon retiring from sport, he build a sprawling business empire in post-communist Romania, including the country’s first private bank and its biggest insurance firm. Building on his sporting experience and contacts, he managed to become the richest Romanian in the world, with an estimated fortune of $1.5 billion that puts him in the global Forbes Top 1000 and he is the first Romanian to appear there. His business empire, Tiriac Holdings, is active in a huge range of areas from finance to real estate and car dealership.

According to the International Tennis Hall of Fame, “by definition, the word “character” can describe a person’s peculiarities and eccentricities, which in many aspects aptly summarizes Ion Ţiriac. The man known as ‘Count Dracula’ or the ‘Brasov Bulldozer’, played the part to perfection. From his bushy Fu Manchu moustache to a piercing stare, Ţiriac was an intriguing and unique “character” in tennis, melding a substantial career as a player, coach, and businessman. In early December 2014, Romania-Insider.com reported that Ţiriac had amassed a personal fortune of $2 billion, making him the richest former sportsman in the world, according to Celebrity NetWorth. Not bad for a doubles specialist who made a few million dollars on tour during the 1960s and 1970s, but whose style on and off the court led to celebrity appeal.” WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS UNIQUE AND EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR FROM SUCH A FASCINATING FIGURE!
